Mark's Ride

Background

Dear YI Sharon community:

Several YI Sharon members have seen Mark on his bicycle around town, in training for "the" ride to NYC, and asked me to re-post info on donating to the Dana Farber cause...so I thank all of you and will do so here. The original posting is below:

Thank you for your support these 4 (!) years as Mark has coped with brain cancer with remarkable dignity, courage, fortitude, and grace...At this time, (yes indeed), he's about to embark on a remarkable bike ride from Sharon, Mass. to New York City (mid-June is "liftoff"), giving new meaning to "if you will it, it is no dream"...plus plenty of workouts at the gym of course...He's faced daunting challenges of illness and treatment effects and here we are..."Ain't no stoppin' him now, he's on the move..." Some of you have bicycled with him and do so currently - thank you!

I'll be joining him on this escapade (IYH!) and am writing to you now to ask for your support in whatever amount to help make this ride not only a personal achievement but a means of financial support for neuro-oncologist Dr. Patrick Wen's brain cancer research lab at Dana Farber Cancer Institute. Dr. Wen (Mark's physician) and his team are doing groundbreaking work in developing effective therapies for this devastating disease and they need our help:

I (we) understand that worthy causes abound and our shul community is generous in so many ways for so many causes...Please do not feel obligated in any way, if this works for you and you wish to contribute to this effort, please mail a check (any amount at all) made out to Dana Farber Cancer Institute (with the following in the Memo: Dr. Patrick Wen research lab in honor of Dr. Mark Weiner) to us at 14 Manns Hill Crescent, Sharon, MA 02067.

Please know that some workplaces have a matching gifts program so please consider this as well.

You have our utmost gratitude. Sending best wishes for health and happiness...and continued friendship and love.
