 Sharon is a beautiful suburban community with a wealth of natural resources and, yet, is just a short train ride from Boston and Providence.The Young Israel is a vibrant shul with a warm, friendly and relaxed atmosphere. Our ideology is inclusiveness. On any given day in the shul, you can see many men, women and children, from a wide variety of backgrounds, with a broad array of religious styles and approaches, all unified by a commitment to authentic Torah life and spirit. What role should Halakhic Judaism play in the State of Israel? Tuesday, February 7th at 8:15 pm at the Young Israel of Sharon Continue the conversation about the direction of Modern Orthodoxy in Israel and America with Rav Yehuda Gilad of Yeshivat Ma’ale Gilboa and former MK. Rav Gilad holds a bold Jewish world-view that embraces human rights and personal dignitiy. While enrolled at Yeshivat Har Etzion, he serves as a combat soldier in the Armored Corps rising to the rank of Captain. After completing his army service, he earned his Teacher’s Certificate from the Yitzchak Herzog Teachers College and Rabbinical Ordination from the Chief Rabbinate. Out of a belief that the Israeli army is the most unifying force in Israeli society, Rav Gilad returned to the professional army as a Chaplain. In this role, he stressed his availability to all soldiers and through his hard work and highly personal style, many soldiers from all backgrounds came to see traditional Judaism as a source of strength, comfort and inspiration. Rav Gilad is a national spokesman for the morally sensitive in the religious community and has earned recognition for his outspoken views and grassroots activism in promoting a Jewish and a democratic state —one without contradiction and without coercion from the religious establishment. He is the Managing Editor of JTA (the Jewish Telegraphic Agency), where he writes and coordinates the global Jewish news agency's domestic and international coverage. Mr. Heilman also has served as bureau chief for the Jerusalem Post, where he was awarded the 2006 Boris Smolar Award for Excellence in Investigative Reporting. He is the recipient of five awards from the American Jewish Press Association and a prize from the Society of Professional Journalists, and his work has appeared in publications around the world. 10:30-11:30 am -- The Women's Torah Circle, at the home of the Ziv-Kregers, 30 Ashcroft Road. Our focus this season is on the essays of Rav Kook in his challenging and inspiring work "Orot."
7:15-8:00 pm -- The High School Enrichment Shiur, for young men and women in Public High School.

8:30-9:30 pm -- The Art of Tefillah. We study the halakhot of prayer, and insights into how to daven, drawn from the Jewish philosophic, ethical kabbalistic and hassidic traditions. |
